Wright County Continues to be Fastest Growing County in Minnesota

Wright County continues to be the fastest growing county in the state, and the rate of the county’s growth is increasing as well.

The most recent statistics from the State Demographer’s Office from 2025, show that Wright County has added more than 16,200 residents since the 2020 Census. That equals a growth rate of 11.5 percent. In fact, Wright County grew almost as much in the five years since the 2020 Census than it did in the ten years from 2010 to 2020. Officials say that if Wright County’s growth continues at the same pace, by 2030, the county’s population would be slightly under 174 thousand, about a 23 percent population increase over the course of the decade.

Two Wright County cities, St. Michael and Otsego both have more than 20 thousand residents. Otsego’s population grew by more than 22 percent since 2020, while St. Michael has added nearly 44 hundred residents in the same 5-year time period, for a population jump of some 24 percent.

Nearly all Wright County cities saw growth in the 5 year time period. Many of Wright County’s Townships however, stayed largely even in population, while nine townships showed a modest decrease in population.
