Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association members who participate in Operation Round Up (ORU) donated grants totaling over 31 thousand dollars in February.
Under the ORU program, members agree to allow their monthly electric bill rounded up the next dollar. That rounded amount is then used for donations that support local programs.
In April, 10 thousand dollars was donated to both the Community Action Partnership of Hennepin County, and also to Wright County Community Action. Both organizations earmarked the funds for low-income energy assistance. Other organizations that benefited from ORU donations included Rivers of Hope, United Faith Community, and My Brother’s Keeper.
Wright-Hennepin says approximately 90 percent of the co-op members participate in Operation Round Up. Officials say the program has awarded some 5.6 million dollars to local organizations since its inception in 1994.
