A young man from Watkins died in a drowning incident Monday evening in Wright County.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office reports that dispatchers were notified at 8:18 PM of a possible drowning on Pleasant Lake near Annandale in Corinna Township.
Officials say deputies found an overturned kayak near the public access and dock on the north side of Pleasant Lake where several people were fishing at the time of the incident.
Authorities say statements from witnesses and evidence gathered at the scene showed that an 18-year-old male was fishing from a kayak about 75 to 100 yards from the dock at the public access. Witnesses said the young man fell from the kayak into the water while he was fishing.
Wright County Sheriff’s Office dive team members located the body of the drowning victim, who was identified as 18-year-old Cameron Mertens of Watkins.
It’s unclear whether or not the young man was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
