The 2025 Fall Sports season is here! Once again KRWC Radio will have all the best Wright County Area sports coverage. Today we are focusing on Girls Volleyball Below is some of the key story lines for the 2025 Fall Sports season. Good luck to all teams and athletes this fall.

Revenge Tour?

The Delano Tigers went undefeated during the regular and postseason before losing to Stewartville in the state championship. This year the Tigers are back, and they are loaded! Kaelyn Wittwer, Sr., defensive specialist was named to the preseason all-state team from the star tribune this fall. Also returning are Caitlin Champeau, 5’9 Sr, avg 10 digs per game, Kayla Heinonen, a 5’8 Sr and Mya Seivers, a 5’9 So, and of course 5’9 Sr, Cassie Wegman who led the Tigers in kills last year. It’s championship or bust for the Tigers this fall.

One more “Magic” step.

The Monticello Magic have been a staple at the state tournament and are a favorite to get back again this year. They took some lumps last year, just going 19-15 before catching fire in the sections and reaching state once again. That experience should help the Magic this season. Monti returns almost all of its team from last fall, led by Alayna Opatz, a Sr., 5’7 Outside Hitter. Other top players returning are Abby and Addison Ruda, both 6’1, along with Ellie Koprek, 6’0 Sr, MB, and Brooklyn Sigler, a 5’3 Sr., who is all over the place on defense. This looks like a state team, but a championship team. We will see.

More of the same?

It’s become a tradition at Annandale. That is the Cards in the state tournament. Lead by head coach Michelle Macalena, Annandale has appeared in six straight state tournaments and this year the Cards have a chance to go back. After going 25-8 last season the Cards did lose some key players like Julia Bishop, but return Jaiden Lee, a 5’8 outside hitter who was #2 on the team in kills. The Cards also return Carlie Hermes, a 5’9 OH, and Amelia Edmonson, a 5’10 Jr, MB. Expect another strong season from the Cards and possibly another state trip.

Michelle Macalena, head coach, middle, hopes to lead the Cards back to the state tournament for the seventh straight season.

Reloading?

Last season the STMA Knights went 25-9 and reached the state tournament out of Section 8AAA. Unfortunately, they lost their top three leaders in kills, led by Kendra Behrens. Luckily for the Knights the cupboard is not bare. Cail Jahnke, who just announced she will be attending Colorado next fall to play basketball is also an outstanding volleyball player. Abby Conklin is also back. The 6’3 middle blocker is headed to the University of Denver after this year. On the defensive side the Knights return, Ella Morstad, 467 assist and Kendyl O’ Connor, who had 421 assist last fall. The Knights have the star power, but do they have enough depth?

Charge!

The DC Chargers went just 11-19 last season, so why be excited about them this year? Two reasons. This team improved dramatically toward the end of last season before losing to Watertown Mayer in the second round of their sections, and reason number two. They return a ton of talent! Led by Madisynne Gallagher, the Jr., right side hitter is intimidating at 6’0 and can bury kills. Ella Johnson returns for her Sr year as a middle hitter, while Addison Anderson, a 5’4 Sr, avg. 19.6 assist per match last season. The Chargers also return Kali Berggren, who avg 12.1 digs per match. Are the Chargers a state team? I don’t know, but they are much better team than last season.
