A Benton County Jury convicted a Glendorado Township man in recent days for a shooting incident at his property in 2023 that injured five members of the Sherburne County Drug Task Force.
66-year-old Karl Holmberg was found guilty on numerous felonies, including seven counts of attempted murder of a police officer, along with assault and drug charges.
You may remember that in early October of 2023, members of the Sherburne County Drug Task Force went to the Glendorado Township home near Princeton to serve a narcotics search warrant. After knocking and announcing that they had a warrant, Task Force officers entered the Holmberg residence, at which time Holmberg immediately began firing gunshots at the Task Force members, hitting five officers.
Numerous agencies from throughout the region rushed to the scene, which quickly became a standoff. After several hours, negotiators convinced Holmberg to exit the home where he was arrested without further incident.
Two of the five officers shot were injured. The three other officers were protected from serious injury by body armor.
Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott said the department was grateful for the verdict, and hopes that the conviction sends a message that the reckless violence that Holmberg chose that day cannot be tolerated.
