Wright Count Area High School Scores for the Week of Friday, Sept. 26th-Sat. October 4th.

Friday, September 26th.

Football.

Annandale 30, Holy Family 10. The Cards came in ranked #1 in the state in AAA, while Holy Family is #4AAA. After a quick start including a safety, the Cards led 9-0 going into the second quarter. In the second the Fire turned two turnovers into ten points, going into the half, led 10-9. The Cards got the ball to start the second half, and facing a third and nine, Michael Kovall hit Cooper Broman for fourteen yards to put the Cards into Fire territory. From there the Cards leaned on Cam Ergen their senior RB to get them into the end zone to take a 15-10 lead. On the two-point conversion, Kovall hit Isiah Turner on a throwback trick play to give the Cards a seven-point lead. The Cards put the game away in the fourth on a 23 yards td pass from Kovall to Gabe Westman on a fade route as Annandale improved to 5-0.

Monticello 52, Buffalo 14. The Magic exploded in the first half and jumped out to a 38-0 lead and cruised from there. Garrett Bauer (3) and Cale Holthaus (2) combined for five touchdowns on the ground for Monticello. The Magic limited the Bison to 178 yards of offense, as Brock Sipe finished with eleven tackles for Monticello.

Howard Lake WW 32, Litchfield 28. Jaxon Ewert returned a kickoff 91 yards in the fourth quarter to lift the Lakers to an upset over #8AAA Litchfield on Friday night. Ewert also rushed for 101 yards and two TD’s as HLWW continued its impressive season with a road win at Litch.

Maple Lake 14, Belgrade BE 12. The Irish scored the final fourteen points in the game, all in the fourth quarter capped off by a 54-yard interception return for the game winner in their road win over BBE. Danny Reilly rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown as the Irish improved to 4-1.

Edina 42, STMA 21. The Knights hung in for a half with the Hornets, trailing 21-14 after 24 minutes, but Sr. QB Mason West and the Hornets took over in the second half. Elijah Lewis had a 95-yard kick return for a TD in the first half for STMA, while QB Lucas Bryan came off the bench to go 9-15 for 69 yards in the Knights loss.

Dassel-Cokato 42, Morris 28. Elijah Torola (117), Isaac Salmen (103), and Jackson Nyquist (96) combined for 396 rushing yards as DC ran past Morris on Friday night. Salmen also added two interceptions on defense for the Chargers.

Marshall 36, Delano 6. Delano didn’t have enough to hang with #2 Marshall in AAAA on Friday night. Marshall limited Delano to just 136 yards of offense. Isaac Miller led Delano with thirteen tackles.

Glencoe SL 6, Rockford 0.

Saturday, September 27th.

Volleyball.

Dassel-Cokato won the Charger Challenge at DC on Saturday, with easy wins over Hennig, 2-0, Melrose 2-0, Big Lake 2-0, and then held off Mankato East in the championship, 25-19, 17-25, and 15-11.

Rockford went 2-2 at the Charger Challenge, with wins over Sibley East, 2-0, Melrose, 2-0, with their losses coming to Big Lake and Eden Valley Watkins.

Boys Soccer.

Rogers 3, Monticello 2. Caleb Vagle and Matteus Sundine scored in the first half for Monticello, but the #10AA Royals scored all three goals in the second half to pull out the home victory. Jack Wade scored two of those goals in the second half for Rogers.

STMA 4, Brainerd 0. Anthony Davis scored two goals in the Knights win.

St. Francis 8, Rockford 1.

Girls Soccer.

Monticello 3, Delano 0. The Magic scored two first half goals and cruised from there.

Andover 1, Buffalo 0. Addison Dobratz scored the only goal of the game in the Huskies win.

Monday, September 29th.

Volleyball.

Monticello 3, Annandale 1. The Magic escaped with a 25-20, 18-25, 29-27, and 25-22 win on Monday night. After Monti won the first set, Jaiden Lee led the Cards to the second set win, setting up a fantastic third set. Abby Ruda had a few big blocks late, and the Magic escaped with a 29-27 win. In the fourth set it went back and forth, but once again Ruda had some key blocks, while Alayna Opatz took over late with some powerful kills as the Magic took the final set, 25-22.

St. Francis 3, Monticello 2.

Rockford 4, PACT 2.

Tuesday, September 30th.

Girls Soccer.

Buffalo 5, Hopkins 2. Emma Marzean stopped twelve shots and even added an assist as the Bison had ten different players with either a goal or an assist in their win over Hopkins.

Delano 4, Rockford 0. The Tigers pulled away in the second half, scoring three goals.

St. Cloud Cathedral 2, Monticello 1.

STMA 2, Eden Prairie 0.

Boys Soccer.

Buffalo 3, Hopkins 1. Gavin Johnson had a hat trick as the Bison defeated Hopkins on Tuesday.

Delano 10, Rockford 0. Lincoln Hanson and Jacob Barta each scored three goals in the Tigers rout.

Monticello 2, Mound 2.

Volleyball.

Buffalo 3, Hopkins 0. Brianna Eggers finished with an ace as Buffalo swept Hopkins at home.

STMA 3, Eden Prairie 1. The Knights dropped the first set, but won the last three, 25-19, 25-22, and 25-21.

Monticello 3, St. Francis 0. Addison Ruda and Alayna Opatz each had nine kills in the Magic win.

Delano 3, Hutch 0. Delano made quick work of Hutch, outscoring them on the night, 75-42.

Glencoe SL 3, Howard Lake WW 2. The Panthers came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Lakers, winning the final set, 15-12.

Maple Lake 3, Litchfield 2. The Irish won a thriller, 25-23, 25-13, 22-25, 23-25, and 21-19.

Dassel-Cokato 3, New London Spicer 2.

Girls Tennis, Section Playoffs.

Buffalo defeated Moorhead, 6-1 in the Play in round, but lost to #1 Elk River in the second round to end their season.

Girls Swim and Dive.

Waconia 98, Delano 88.

Thursday, October 2nd.

Boys Soccer.

Buffalo 3, Sartell 0. Gavin Johnson, Hunter Scott and Wyatt Anderson all scored goals in the Bison win.

Watertown-Mayer 4, Rockford 3.

Girls Soccer.

Buffalo 3, Sartell 2. Sophie Alderman scored two goals in the contest, including a game tying goal with 2:30 left, and then Courtney Kodish scored the game winner with 1:30 left as the Bison rallied to defeat the Sabers on Thursday night.

Monticello 5, Sauk Rapids Rice 0. Lydia Walker scored the game winner for the Magic.

Norwood YA 2, Delano 0.

Watertown-Mayer 5, Rockford 1.

Volleyball.

Maple Lake 3, Holdingford 2. The Irish won their second thriller of the week, rallying from 2-1 down to defeat Holdingford in the final two sets, 25-19, and 15-13.

Dassel-Cokato 3, Rockford 1. After dropping the first set, the Chargers won the last three.

Howard Lake WW 3, New London Spicer 0.

Spring Lake Park 3, Monticello 0. The Panthers swept the Magic, but it wasn’t easy, 25-22, 25-23, and 25-22.

STMA 3, New Prague 2. The Knight won the final two sets and the match, 25-21, and 15-7.

Princeton 3, Buffalo 1. The Tigers outscored the Bison, 88-83 in the four-set win.

Girls Tennis.

Delano advanced to the Section finals, with a 5-2 victory over Orono. The Tigers will play for a trip to state vs. Southwest Christian on Monday, October 6th, at Rogers HS, at 3 PM.

Cross Country.

The Delano girls finished first, while the boys were second at the Litchfield Invite.

The Delano Girls Cross Country team took first place at Litch on Thursday.

Friday, October 3rd.

Buffalo 42, Irondale 6. Grant Benson threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Bison routed the Knights on homecoming. Jackson Coss added two touchdowns for the Bison, one on a reception and the other on a run to close the game.

Maple Grove 35, STMA 24. Once again the Knights hung tough against a top ranked team, but came up short in the end, as the #1 Crimson pulled away. Wyatt Mosher scored two touchdowns on the ground for the Knights.

Annandale 35, Rockford 7. The Cards started fast scoring two TDs in the first quarter, including a long pass from Michael Kovall to Gabe Westman, but the Rockets answered with an 80-yard drive that took eight minutes, and at the half only trailed 14-7. In the second half the #1AAA Cards came to life and behind two TD’s from Isiah Westman, and another from Cam Ergen and pulled away for the home win.

Upsala 52, Maple Lake 8.
