Latest “Click It Or Ticket” Campaign Results in Numerous Citations

Minnesota law enforcement officials issued nearly 1,000 citations to motorists who were not using their seatbelt during the final week of September.

Statistics from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety show that 967 drivers were issued a ticket as part of a statewide seat belt enforcement campaign.

Mike Hanson with the Office of Traffic Safety says that’s far too many…

The fact that we have 4.8% of Minnesotans that still haven’t figured out how to pay two seconds and put on that seat belt, but yet that is still almost a third of our fatalities. That alone should tell you just how effective that seat belt or that child restraint system is.”

Officials say there were also 37 citations issued for failing to properly secure children in their vehicles, which they say is even more egregious.

The “Click It or Ticket” campaign was coordinated by the Office of Traffic Safety in partnership with law enforcement agencies statewide, aiming to raise awareness and improve compliance.
