(District 29 State Senator-Elect Michael Holmstrom, Jr.)
Minnesota Senate District 29 Senator-Elect Michael Holmstrom Jr. of Buffalo says he’s ready to get to work in St. Paul once the new legislative session begins.
Holmstrom talked with KRWC Radio News following last week’s victory in the Senate District 29 special election to fill the seat left open after Senator Bruce Anderson’s unexpected death in July of this year.
Holmstrom says he has a strong contingent of GOP colleagues from Wright County that have already been mentors during the election process, namely, Republican Senators Eric Lucero of St. Michael, and Glenn Gruenhagen of Glencoe…
“You know, Senator Lucero and Senator Gruenhagen have been really great to work with. They’ve been at my side ever sense we got the endorsement, and they are very, very helpful and insightful. And I don’t want to look past Representatives Rarik, or McDonald, or Hudson, they’ve also been great members to work with throughout the years. I’ve been friends with them for a long time, so I look forward to going down there to represent Senate District 29, a Wright and Meeker County front, and once again exporting those values and defending them well.”
Senator-elect Holmstrom says it’s too early to tell what his senate committee assignments may be, but that it’s possible he will be assigned to continue the representation on the same committees of the late Senator Anderson…
“There is talk about re-doing everything, but from what I’ve heard from senate leadership, the most likely route is that I will sit on Bruce’s committees. He was a champion of agriculture, and environmental stuff out here. He was also on Judiciary and Public Safety which is going to which is going to be a very important committee moving into next year with all the news. But I’ve also had some conversations, obviously I’ve been clear about this, K-12 education is near and dear to my heart, I have five children, my oldest is 7. We are very dedicated to solving some of the problems facing education in Minnesota. And it sounds like there might be some room on an Education Committee for me coming into next year’s session, so that will be great.”
The 2026 Minnesota Legislative Session will begin on February 17th.
