Monticello Takes Home First State Championship at Girls Swim and Dive State Meet!

Coming into the 2025 Girls State Swim and Dive meet, the Magic knew they would have their work cut out for them.

In the field was last year’s state champion’s from Orono, allowing with Visitation who has won fourteen state championships in girls swim and dive, and had won ten straight going into last season before Orono took the title from them. Once again, this fall Orono and Visitation were excellent, but it was Monticello who won the state championship with a score of 227. Visitation finished second with a score of 210, while Orono was third with 180 points.

The Prelims for state took place Friday and Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic center on the U of M campus, with the finals on Saturday. Once again Jr., and Tennessee commit Adalyn Biegler led the way for Monticello. Biegler set a state record in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.36, which also qualified as an All-American time. Biegler also took first in the 100 fly with a time of 53.30, also good enough to earn her second All American time in the same day.

The Magic also took first in the 200 free relay, (Biegler, Elsie Farnsworth, Ella Vagle, and Scarlet Urick.) and that same group of girls won the 400 free relay. Individually besides Biegler’s two championships, Scarlet Urick finished 5th in the 100 fly and 7th in the 200 IM. Ella Vagle was 4th in the 100 free and 6th in the 50 free. Chloe Schweitering finished 3rd and Addie Zigan 8th in the one-meter dive, and Elsie Farnsworth was 6th in the 200 free.

What great showing for the Magic, and for the first time they can call themselves state champs!
