The Monticello City Council and the Monticello Planning Commission will hold a special joint workshop on Thursday to discuss the ongoing debate over the potential development of a large data center, or possible light-industrial development in that community.
The discussion involves some 550 acres south of, and adjacent to, part of the current Monticello city boundaries.
A public hearing on an ordinance that could allow such development of what is now mostly farmland and wooded land was held in December by the city’s Planning Commission, but a vote was delayed until the Planning Commission and City Council could hold a joint discussion on the matter.
Many residents of the area have voiced their concerns and are opposed to an ordinance that would allow the next steps in potential development of what has been estimated at a 2.5 to 5 billion dollar technology campus.
Thursday’s meeting is scheduled for 4:45 PM at the Monticello Community Center. The public is welcome to attend, but the public comment period and the public hearing on the issue has been closed, and no additional public input time is expected.
The official vote on the ordinance has been delayed to the Monticello Planning Commission’s next meeting on February 3rd.
