GOP Race for Governor Headed for August Primary as Demuth, Lindell Vow to Stay in the Race

It appears that the race for governor among Minnesota Republicans is headed for a full-on primary showdown in August.

Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth has announced that she is staying in the race after the GOP party chair said other candidates would not be bound by their endorsement pledge prior to last weekend’s party convention. Republicans endorsed Kendall Qualls after multiple ballots, but Speaker Demuth said technical problems left that outcome less than acceptable…

“We fully expected when we agreed to abide by the endorsement that process would be fair. That process would actually be full of integrity. That was brought into question. Our eyes right now obviously August 11th the primary makes a lot of difference here. That’s going to give Minnesotans that voice to make a true change.”

Demuth says she expects her experience at the state level to be the difference in the primary…

“No other Republican candidate for governor has any experience in the legislature and leading a state. I have proven leadership that yes I can unify Republicans and keep people together and I am what needs to be done.”

Fellow republican Mike Lindell has also announced he’s staying in the race.

Meanwhile, endorsed candidate Kendall Qualls says he would very much also like to get the endorsement of President Trump…

“Who wouldn’t want the President’s endorsement? Any president right? Obviously any historic president of their party would want that endorsement. So yes I would love to get president Trump’s endorsement.”

Qualls continues to urge his fellow Republican gubernatorial candidates to close their campaigns in the interest of party unity.
