Farm Bureau Among Farm Groups Looking Over Language of U-S Senate Draft of New Farm Bill

(MN Farm Bureau President Dan Glessing)

Officials with the American Farm Bureau are among the groups that are looking over the language of the   U-S Senate Ag Committee draft of a new Farm Bill.

Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation President and Waverly farmer, Dan Glessing, says there are perceived positives in the senate version including limit increases on farm loans, and extension of some credit services.

He says many farm groups would still like to see some movement toward nationwide year-round E15 sales, though he says there may be a path forward with South Dakota Senator John Thune heading up a stand-alone bill on E15. He added that the Farm Bureau is also still hopeful that a solution to the interstate commerce dilemma may come forward.

Glessing says however, the fact that the senate has gotten to the point of putting a draft forward is positive in and of itself…

All in all it’s a pretty solid bill. We’re just going to work to try to include some language yet, and in having our conversation with the chairman’s team or staff….they basically said…what do you think of this and this is kind of a starting point and we’re going to try to get some of those things included.”
