Most of the time when we think of severe weather in the summertime, we think of tornadoes, thunderstorms and the ingredients that can be a part of those storms.
However, safety officials all agree that for some segments of the population, especially the very young and the elderly, heat waves can also be potentially deadly.
During extremely hot weather, we are encouraged to check in on loved ones, particularly the elderly, to make sure everyone is safe.
Air conditioning of course is the first choice for staying comfortable. Short of that, fans can offer some cooling, but most important, especially for those who work outdoors is staying hydrated.
Residents are also reminded that parked vehicles can get to extremely dangerous interior temperatures in a matter of minutes, so small children and pets should never be left unattended in a vehicle in hot weather.
There is an Extreme Heat Warning in effect for Wright County until midnight tonight.
