A Big Lake man and his daughter died in an ATV crash in north-central Minnesota in recent days.

Officials in Aitkin County investigated the incident that happened around 2:30 PM on October 16th in Macville Township. Authorities say the crash happened on a minimum maintenance road that connects the Blind Lake ATV trail with township roads.

The Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office reported that 48-year-old Jacob Jeurissen and his 18-year-old daughter Kiara Jeurissen both were killed when their Polaris RZR Turbo 1000 ATV flipped over and rolled multiple times.

Family members of the victims who were reportedly riding behind them in a separate vehicle, made the 911 call. Deputies reported that both of the victims were using five-point harnesses, but were not wearing helmets. The father and daughter both were reported to have sustained severe head injuries.

Authorities reported that speed appeared to have been a possible factor in the tragic crash.

The Hill City Emergency Services, the Minnesota DNR and the State Patrol assisted Aitkin County officials at the scene.
