Two major projects in the Wright County area are among those that will receive grant funding from the state for either rehabilitation or redevelopment.

The Department of Employment and Economic Development, or DEED, awarded Wright County a large redevelopment grant for demolition and asbestos abatement on the former Wright County Government Center site in downtown Buffalo.

Wright County Commissioner Darek Vetsch says the state funds will be a nice jump-start to the major project…

So we applied for the state demo grants a few months back, and were notified that we were awarded 867 thousand of the 2.1 million dollar pot of funds. We were the largest award winner of the funds by far, so that moves us forward quite well with the proposed demolition of the proposed demolition of the old government center slated for the second and third quarters of 2026.”

The 6.8 acre site will be redeveloped into 16 single-family patio homes, two market-rate apartment buildings with some 200 units, 18 thousand square feet of commercial space, and a public marina. DEED says that Wright County will provide matching funds for the redevelopment project.

It was also recently announced that the City of Annandale will be awarded more than 875 thousand dollars for the rehabilitation of 15 owner-occupied homes, 12 multi-family units, and six commercial buildings. The award monies will be a part of some 20.7 million dollars in grants through DEED’s Small City Development Program that will support economic development in 33 cities and counties in outstate Minnesota.
