Officials with the City of Buffalo say construction of Phase 1 of the Northeast Area Reconstruction project will begin in the weeks ahead, and the city will host an open house on the project next week.
Buffalo Mayor Steve Downer says a significant portion of streets in and near the downtown Buffalo area will be involved in the reconstruction…
“Basically the reason for this is that the water-sewer lines in the area are upwards of 90 years old, so it’s time to replace those. With the project coming, the streets and sidewalks have not been invested in like they would have been normally. So, that’s going to happen, and basically the project area is initially here is 1st and 2nd Avenue, and then 2nd Street down to 1st Street which is Wide Street most people know it as.”
Planned improvements include re-construction of the street pavement, downtown parking lots, sidewalks, storm sewer and water main, sanitary sewer as well as the addition of Buffalo Fiber service.

An open house is planned for Tuesday, March 31st from 4 to 6 PM, with a presentation at 4:30 PM at the Buffalo City Center (212 Central Avenue). Project staff will be on hand to answer questions and address concerns. For those who can’t attend, meeting materials will be posted to the project website following the meeting.
