Key Stats and notes:
- The eight teams combined records coming into state is 95-17, and only six of those losses came to teams not in the tournament, and two of those six losses came to Prior Lake, and Orono who lost in section finals.
- Buffalo defeated the #1 seed Minnetonka the only time these two teams met, 12-10 back in May. It is the only loss for the Skippers on the season.
- Despite the powerhouses in this state tournament, only Lakeville South has won a state championship, and they have done it twice in 2022, and 2024.
- Stillwater is the Minnesota Vikings of the state tournament. They will be playing in their 15th state tournament and are still looking for their first state championship.
- Cretin Derham Hall’s top two scorers are Lily Selander and Jordin Rosga. If those names seem familiar, Lily’s dad starred at CDH in baseball and was a star player for the Gophers in the 90’s, while Jordin’s dad Jeff, also attended CDH and was a start football player for the Gophers in the 90’s.

The Bison, above, celebrate a goal in their win over Minnetonka earlier this year.
Can Buffalo bring home a state championship in its tournament debut……
Absolutely! At one point the Bison were #1 in the state and have already defeated the #1 seed Minnetonka, 12-10 in May. There only two losses were by a combined two goals, and they outscored their Section opponents, 61-14 to reach state, so yeah, they have a great shot. They have plenty of scoring power, and outstanding goalie in Rory Meyer, and a great coach to boot. They open up with Lakeville South, at team they already beat, but it was close, 19-14, so it won’t be easy. This might be the most loaded state tournament ever, and the Bison lost Hannah Rosso, their leading scorer during the regular season. Rosso scored 40 goals and added 44 assists. In the Sections, the Bison looked unbeatable even without Rosso, but this is state, her loss could be devastating in a close game, but the Bison have enough firepower and goaltending to still win it all. No matter what, it is going to be a lot of fun the next few days.

The Buffalo Bison, above, are headed to state for the first time in girls lacrosse.
