The City of Howard Lake has announced that it is moving forward in securing funding support for a new water treatment plant after a pledge of federal support from Congressman Tom Emmer.
Representative Emmer recently included the project and a 15 million dollar award among his recommended priorities for federal appropriations funding.

Howard Lake’s existing water treatment plant, constructed in 1989, was designed for a 30-year lifespan. Now 7 years beyond its original lifespan specifications, the facility has experienced frequent breakdowns, malfunctions and capacity limitations according to city officials.
Howard Lake City Administrator Nick Haggenmiller said recently that “…investing in reliable infrastructure is critical for communities like Howard Lake.”
He added that the city “….appreciates Congressman Emmer’s support in advancing this project through the federal appropriations process.” Haggenmiller said without federal support, the community would face “…an unsustainable debt burden.”
According to a press release from the city, the new 27 million dollar facility in Howard Lake would be designed to; improve reliability and system performance, remove manganese contaminants, and support long-term growth and water demand.
Officials say in addition to the proposed federal dollars, Howard Lake will also continue to work with state and local partners to secure the necessary funding to move the project forward.
