Independence Day Holiday Gas Prices Down From Recent Highs

Triple-A expects another busy Fourth of July travel period, with millions of Minnesotans joining the holiday getaway…

More than 72 million Americans are expected to travel during the holiday period. Here in the West North Central region, which includes Minnesota, we’re expecting about 5.1 million people to travel, with most of them hitting the road by car.”

Triple-A spokeswoman Brynna Knapp says just in time for the busy travel weekend, the price of fuel is down somewhat from recent highs.

Triple A reports that the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline across the state is $3.64, down from nearly $4.10 a gallon a month ago. The current average is still considerably higher than the 4th in 2025, when the average statewide price per gallon was $3.02.

The Twin Cities metro area prices are about a penny per gallon higher than the statewide average, while Wright County’s average price per gallon is currently $3.62 per gallon.

Nationwide, motorists are paying an average $3.83 per gallon. Much of the spike in the price at the pump came after the start of the military action in Iran earlier this year.

The 4th of July holiday driving period is traditionally a busy one on the nation’s highways, and just in time, the price of fuel is down somewhat from recent highs.
