A Maple Lake area man has announced that he has entered the race for Wright County Commissioner in District 1.

Lifelong Wright County resident Joe Paumen has announced that he is a candidate for County Commissioner. In a press release, Paumen says he is pledging to bring experienced leadership, fiscal responsibility, and a commitment to preserving the values that he feels make Wright County one of the state’s best places to live, work and raise a family.

Paumen currently works as the Director of Transportation Maintenance and Repair for the City of Minneapolis. His press release outlined that he oversees a division of 250 employees, and manages an annual budget exceeding 50 million dollars. He has also served on the Maple Lake School Board for the past 14 years.

Paumen’s candidacy announcement highlights that he and his family are deeply rooted in the area and are actively involved in the community.

The race for County Commissioner in District 1 will be a 4-way race going into the August primary. Paumen joins Terry Strege, Bradley Kurtz, and former County Commissioner Christine Husom in the race for the seat that is wide open after current District 1 Commissioner Tina Diedrick announced that she would not seek another term on the County Board.

The race for County Commissioner in District 4 will also be going to a primary as Joy Harken and Drew Scherber are challenging current Commissioner Nadine Schoen.

The District 3 Commissioner’s race will not need to go to a primary run-off as only one challenger, Ryan Dunlap filed to run against current Commissioner Jeanne Holland.

Primary election day in Minnesota is Tuesday, August 11th.
