A Minnesota House member from Wright County was one of two legislators removed from his committee assignments this week as a result of a March DWI incident in the metro area.
Multiple sources report that GOP Representatives Elliott Engen of White Bear Township and Walter Hudson of Albertville were removed from various committees following the incident on March 27th.

Representative Engen was arrested, and was later charged with a DWI, as well as other moving violations after the traffic stop in the early morning hours of March 27th in White Bear Lake. In addition to serving in the Minnesota House, Engen is also a candidate for State Auditor.
Representative Hudson, who was a passenger in Engen’s vehicle, had his handgun confiscated and held for a period of time. He reportedly notified law enforcement during the stop that he was carrying, and had a concealed-carry permit. Hudson was not asked to take a blood alcohol test, and was not charged.

House Speaker Lisa Demuth, Republican from Cold Spring, announced the committee shakeups. House DFL’ers said they would file ethics complaints against the GOP lawmakers.
