The City of Monticello will host a new community celebration Saturday. “Heritage Day” will honor the past, and the history that has shaped Monticello today.
Jeff Pawelk is the Parks, Arts and Recreation Director for the City of Monticello. He says the events will be held in the city’s West Bridge Park along the Mississippi River which was and continues to be the key natural resource for Monticello. Pawelk says numerous departments as well as community volunteers came together to plan the event which will have much to offer…
“…family fun day, we’ll have plenty of history. Our goal is to build a community connection.”
Jeff says there will be a large Maker’s Market on Walnut and River Streets…
“We have 40 vendors registered. This is going to be a lot of fun. Bring your bags and bring something home, they’re going to be selling a lot of fun stuff.”
Pawelk says visitors can take a deep dive into Monticello’s history through a vast collection of photos from various eras…
“We’re converting the entire space at Monti Arts into all of our historic photos that we’ve collected from several families that we’ve scanned in as a city over the years, and what’s been donated to us as a community. Plus there’ll be some from Cargill, they have some pretty significant photos that they’ll be sharing.”
Hours of Monticello’s “Heritage Day” are from 9 AM to 5 PM, and with the exception of food and beverage concessions, most events and activities are free.
West Bridge Park is located at 107 River Street in Monticello. More information is available online at; www.monticellomn.gov.
