With road construction season beginning in full this week, drivers are reminded of the dangers of driving in work zones. As part of this effort, the Wright County Board of Commissioners this week proclaimed April 20th through the 24th as National Work Zone Awareness Week in Wright County.
In 2024, more than two people per day died in work zone crashes. More than half of all deaths in work zone crashes happen at night. Approximately 25 percent of the fatal crashes are rear-end crashes. One in three crashes involves excessive speed, and a third of all deaths involve crashes with large trucks or buses.
In its proclamation this week, Wright County commissioners took time to salute construction, maintenance, and utility workers that have a long summer ahead of them in 2026.
Drivers in Wright County and throughout the state are reminded to slow down in the work zone, follow signs and flaggers instructions, move over whenever possible to provide workers with a clear buffer lane from traffic, and never use a mobile device while operating a vehicle.
