Law enforcement leaders say an updated school bus stop law removes confusion and puts responsibility squarely on drivers…
“When a school bus has its flashing red lights on, you stop. Not when the stop arm comes out, not when you think it’s safe, but when the red lights start flashing, that’s when you need to be stopped. This important law change removes the moment of hesitation from drivers.”
That’s Minnesota State Patrol Lieutenant Brian Rue, who says thousands of citations are issued every year, but law enforcement believes many more illegal passes go unreported.
School bus stop violations in Minnesota carry a minimum 500 dollar fine.
