A bill that would establish an independent Office of the Inspector General in Minnesota could pass this legislative session.
Carleton College political analyst Steven Schier says the O-I-G would look for inefficient public spending, and try to identify and prevent fraud before it happens…
“So, it would be an important anti-fraud initiative. And I think all incumbents would enjoy supporting that initiative as they go into the fall campaign.”
Schier says Governor Walz has already said he would sign the O-I-G bill. A similar measure passed the Minnesota Senate on a 60-7 vote last session, but stalled in the House.
