Minnesota’s 72nd Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Malorie Thorson of Waverly is busy this month with numerous personal appearances in support of June Dairy Month.
Malorie visited Goodhue County Dairy Days June 5th, with an appearance at the Goodhue County Breakfast on the Farm in Kenyon, Minnesota. She reminded visitors of her background growing up on her family’s legacy dairy operation…
“My family and I farm in Waverly, Minnesota, it was established in 1874. I grew up working hands-on with the cows, with my Mom and with so many memories, and I also grew as a leader. So that’s when I wanted to step into the role of Princess Kay and a dairy leader in my county. So I decided to run for Wright County Dairy Princess, then I went to the finalists and got crowned last year before the State Fair, and got my head carved in butter.”
Malorie said the next several weeks will be the busiest of her reign as Princess Kay…
“It’s been an amazing experience. I’ve gone to one other Breakfast on the Farm this year already, and have so many Breakfast on the Farms coming up. I love always urging the importance of just….open your eyes and see, and have curiosity to see. Ask the questions even if you think don’t sound the smartest. Ask them anyway because that’s how you learn, how you grow, and how you understand what dairy farmers are doing every day to make sure that food is affordable and nutritious and high quality that goes to your table.”
This year’s Wright and Carver County Breakfast on the Farm will be this Saturday, June 13th at the Halquist Dairy Farm near Belle Plaine, Minnesota.
