Senate Leaders Cautiously Confident of Agreement on Establishment of OIG

Fixing Minnesota’s fraud problem will continue to be front and center when state lawmakers return to work next week.

Both parties seem to agree an independent fraud watchdog called the Office of Inspector General is needed. The OIG bill easily passed the Senate last year but has stumbled through House committees this session.

DFL Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy says however that progress is being made in the House…

“We are determined to get an independent Inspector General proposal onto the Governor’s desk and we’re really grateful the House Democrats and Republicans are finally moving their proposal to get us into a position to pass it.”

Senate Republican Leader Mark Johnson is also optimistic…

“Sounds like there’s some progress. There’s enough cry from the public to get this done. I would wager that we will see a bill get wrapped up in the House at some point this year.”

Lawmakers will have around six weeks to complete all their work before the mandated adjournment date of May 18th.
