A young man from Watkins drowned Monday evening in Pleasant Lake in Corrina Township near Annandale.
According to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the north public access on Pleasant Lake at approximately 8:18 PM Monday evening for reports of a possible drowning. Deputies on the scene discovered an overturned kayak near the access. Witnesses on the scene reported that a young man was seen fishing from the kayak about 75 to 100 yards from the dock, and that he fell from the kayak.
The male was located by Wright County Sheriff’s Office dive team members. He was later identified as 18-year-old Cameron Mertens of Watkins.
