Wright County Area HS Sports Update for the Week of May 8th-May 12th.

The spring sports season is headed down the stretch here in Wright County Area High School sports. The spring is a hard time to get box scores and accurate updates daily. Spring sports are also constantly disrupted by weather, so I am taking a new approach to spring sports. I will have a weekly update throughout the rest of the spring of all the biggest highlights on and off the fields involving Wright Count Area high school sports. Think of it like the old Sporting News, or like Star Tribune legend Sid Hartman and his jottings on page two back in the day at the star tribune. Hope you like this approach, let me know what you think. If you want to submit any updates, just email me at jkbroman1@aol.com. Now let’s catch you up to the last week in Wright County Area Sports!

Baseball.

The third annual baseball day in Minnesota came out to Delano and Municipal Stadium on Saturday, May 9th, and three Wright County Area teams were involved. Here is how they did.

The first game of the day featured Lake Conference rivals, Hopkins and Buffalo. Dylan Lindstrom hit two home runs into the trees in left center field and the Royals rolled over the Bison, 9-4. The Bison did bounce back on Monday, May 11th with a 2-1 win over Osseo. In that game, Cash Hourscht got the game winning RBI for Buffalo.

Hannah Rosso netted 5 goals and dished out three assists in the Bison win.  the bison completed their perfect week with a 16-0 shutout win over St. Cloud, as they only allowed three shots on goal. The Bison are now 9-1 and ranked #2 in Class AAA.

Delano won both games last week over Hutchinson and Southwest Christian. Addilyn Dietman led the way for Delano, she has 43 goals this season, which is 7th in the state. For her career, Dietman has 128 goals. Goalie Izzy Knoph also had an outstanding week and has a 60% save percentage this spring.

Softball.

Watch out, her comes Delano! After losing two straight in late April, the Tigers sat at 5-3, and although ranked #8 in AAA, it sure didn’t feel like things were going well for Delano. Since then, the Tigers have gone, 5-0 and listen to this! The Tigers last week beat Jordan, 23-7 and Chanhassen, 21-3! In between those two games the Tigers knocked off #6AAAA Centennial, 4-3. The roar has been restored in Delano, led by the hitting of Reese Stowman, Kaelyn Wittwer, and Sydney Pink.

The Delano infield, above, meets at the circle to go over strategy in their win over Jordan last week. The Tigers went 3-0 last week and outscored their opponents, 48-13.

Speaking of watching out for a team, here come Annandale as well. The Cards started the season 3-3, but know have won 11 of their last 12, and just shutout Section 5AA favorite Rockford, 4-0. Section 5AA should be a great battle, and Annandale looks like it will be a part of it, led by Maddie Larson, Kylee Swanson, Clara Peterson and Grace Grube.

Boys Volleyball.

STMA hosted its annual STMAYHEM tournament this past weekend and went 3-2. The wins for STMA came over Forest Lake, Stillwater, and North St. Paul. The STMA losses came against #1 Eastview, 2-0, and #7 Wayzata, 2-1.
