Radon Action Month Continues

Minnesota health officials are encouraging you to test your home for radon this winter.

The state Health Department’s Dan Tranter says radon occurs naturally in Minnesota soils all across Minnesota, and statewide, 40-percent of homes have dangerous levels of radon.

He says the pandemic has indirectly made the radon situation worse because of additional hours of potential exposure at home.

Radon is an odorless, colorless, and tasteless gas that occurs naturally in Minnesota soils all over the state. It’s also the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.

The only way for residents to know if their home has radon is to test. Through the month of January, Wright County Public Health is offering radon test kits at the reduced price of just 5 dollars for county residents.
