Swearing-in Ceremony Held for New Senators

(Dist. 29 Senator Michael Holmstrom, Jr.)

The Minnesota Senate once again is full with 67 members. Swearing-in ceremonies were held Tuesday for the newest members after special elections.

Republican Senator Michael Holmstrom, Jr. of Buffalo was sworn in as the new Senator in District 29. He fills the seat left open in July with the unexpected death of longtime State Senator Bruce Anderson.

After taking the oath, Holmstrom paid tribute to the late Senator Anderson…

“A man of integrity, a devoted husband, father a steadfast servant of God. His legacy of service will continue to inspire us all.”

DFL Senator Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger of Woodbury moves from the Minnesota House to the Senate, filling the open seat after the resignation of former Senator Nicole Mitchell…

“It’s been quite a whirlwind so to have this be so special. Really I love the energy in here and I know we’re all excited to get to work so I just wanted to say thank you. Again this really means a lot.”

The DFL still controls the Minnesota Senate with a 34-33 majority.
