Accused Shooter in Dura Supreme Parking Lot Killing Indicted on 1st Degree Murder Charges

The man who is accused of being the lone gunman in the fatal shooting of a co-worker at the Dura Supreme cabinet company parking lot in Howard Lake earlier this year has been indicted on first-degree murder charges.

Kevin Zelaya Asencio was indicted late last week by a grand jury in Wright County on first-degree premeditated murder and second-degree intentional murder in the shooting death of Adrian Medina on March 20th.

You may remember that the 23-year-old Glencoe man is accused in the shooting that court documents suggested that may center around the defendant’s belief that his wife was involved in a romantic relationship with the shooting victim. All three individuals were employees at Dura Supreme.

Asencio is alleged to have shot and killed Adrian Medina in the victim’s pickup truck shortly after 12 noon on Monday, March 20th in the Dura Supreme parking lot.

A witness at the scene reportedly got a description of the vehicle and the license plate number, and passed that information on to a 9-1-1 officer with the Wright County Sheriff’s Office. Asencio was stopped by Wright County Sheriff’s Deputies south of Waverly a short time later, and he was taken into custody without incident. An assault rifle was reportedly found in his vehicle.

Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes says the defendant appeared in court Friday afternoon, and was arraigned on the charges. He remains in custody in Wright County. His bail remains at 2 million dollars with conditions, or 5 million dollars without conditions.
