Pilot Program to Focus on Preventing Falls in the Home

Wright County Community Action has announced a new pilot program to prevent falls in the home.

WCCA’s Homemaker Program includes in-home assessments of the homes of older adults in our area. The program also gives residents resources to help create a safer space for themselves and their loved ones.

Funding and support from Wright County Public Health’s Statewide Health Improvement Partnership is making the pilot program possible. Volunteers are also committing time to help with the changes in resident’s homes.

Community Action officials say that as of August, some 92 older adults had been screened, and 40 will be receiving a more in-depth assessment to determine a safety plan. The most common home environment risks for falls include slippery rugs, lack of grab bars in bathrooms and poor lighting. Home modifications are offered to help mitigate these risks.
