STMA Football Advances to State Semi Finals in 6A

The Knights from STMA played Wayzata early in the season and lost 34-14, but this was a different Knights team on Thursday night at Park Center. On a cool night, with some light snow, #2 seed STMA knocked off #4 seed Wayzata 14-7 to advance to the state semi finals at US Bank Stadium next Saturday night. Wayzata went right down the field on the opening drive and was just one yard away from the end zone…..they never got there. STMA stopped Wayzata five straight times inside the five and the defensive struggle was on. It was tied at 7-7 deep into the fourth quarter when STMA running back Jarrett Bennett scored on a 26 yard run and with the extra point from Riley Purcell, STMA lead 14-7 with 1:50 to go, but Wayzata wasn’t done. Wayzata drove the field and had one more play left from the 26. Wayzata QB Harvey escaped pressure and threw a high lofting pass toward Berkland his top receiver, but at the last second an STMA D-back knocked him to the turf causing the ball to pop out of his hands, and the Knights stormed the field as they advanced to the Final 4. Up next for the Knights will be either Lakeville South or Farmington, next Saturday night, November 20th, at US Bank stadium in the Class 6A state semi final, and you can hear it right here on AM1360 KRWC, with the pregame starting at 6:30 PM.
