Stroke Awareness Month Observed in May

Early recognition can be the key difference between life or death when it comes to suffering from a stroke.

Strokes are a leading cause of serious and long-term disability and the fifth leading cause of death in the U-S.

Leah Roering a stroke specialist with CentraCare says there are several factors that can play into someone having a stroke including heart disease and obesity.

She says you should seek immediate medical treatment at the first signs of a stroke.

Strokes occur when a blood vessel carrying oxygen to the brain is either blocked or ruptured by a clot. Many medical officials say that a stroke could be thought of as a “brain attack,” similar to conditions that happen to your heart during a heart attack.
