Rider Critically Injured in Motorcycle vs. Deer Crash in McLeod County

A motorcycle rider was critically injured Saturday evening when his cycle struck a deer in neighboring McLeod County.

The State Patrol says the crash happened around 8:40 PM Saturday on Highway 15 in Sumter Township.

Officials say the cycle was northbound on Highway 15 when it struck the deer that ran out of the east ditch.

The driver of the cycle, 45-year-old Jason Wehking of Eagle Bend, Minnesota, was thrown from the bike in the crash. He sustained life threatening injuries, and was taken to the Hutchinson Hospital. Authorities say he was not wearing a helmet.

The McLeod County Sheriff’s Office, the Brownton Police and Fire Department, Allina Ambulance and Lifelink Air Ambulance also responded to the crash scene.
