April is National Donate Life Month

April is National Donate Month, a time to inspire and teach people about the importance of becoming a registered organ donor.

Dr. Elizabeth Aby with the University of Minnesota says we have over 100,000 people waiting for life-saving organ transplants across the country, with more than 3,000 of them in Minnesota…“The one person’s gift of organ, eye, or tissue donation can help up to 75 people, and then one donor can save up to 8 lives with organ donation.”

Aby dismisses a common myth that if you’re a registered organ donor, healthcare workers won’t try as hard to save you, stating their top priority is to maintain and save every life that comes into a hospital.
