Very little new information has been released surrounding an incident Monday afternoon at the Dollar General store on Highway 12 in Montrose.

A man was taken into custody after what the Wright County Sheriff’s Office called a “critical incident” that began around 1 PM when deputies from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Dollar General store to attempt to arrest the adult male on outstanding warrants.

In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office said deputies attempted to take the man into custody after he exited the store using “less than lethal means.” Authorities say the man refused to comply with commands from deputies, and brandished a firearm. The news release indicates that the man continued to resist arrest, and a Wright County Deputy discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. The man was taken into custody, and emergency aid was rendered by deputies. The man was then transported by ambulance from the scene.

There was no indication in the Sheriff’s Department report regarding the duration of the incident, nor is it currently known if more than one shot was fired by the deputy. There was no official report of any shots being fired by the suspect. No information has been released about the identity of the adult male in custody, and his medical condition has not been released.

The incident remains under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
